Matthew Robbins began his path in San Francisco, studying painting and art history while working at a chic Castro District flower shop, where his talent quickly stood out. He later collaborated with top Bay Area event designers, refining his craft.
After graduating, he moved to New York and launched Matthew Robbins Design in 2002. His fresh approach soon caught the attention of Martha Stewart’s editorial team, leading to a contributing editor role that boosted his reputation.
In 2015, Matthew and his husband, Luis Otoya, co-founded RobbinsOtoya, now a top destination wedding and event planning firm.

Luis Otoya, co-owner and Director of Events at RobbinsOtoya, combines business savvy, creativity, and warmth in every project.
Before co-founding the company, he spent over a decade running Evento & Cocina in Cartagena, Colombia, known for its elevated Colombian cuisine and features in Jamie Oliver Magazine, Sweet Paul, and Vogue Spain.
With a background in Business Management, Hospitality, and Culinary Arts, Luis blends strategic vision with thoughtful detail—earning clients’ trust through his calm, gracious approach and effortless event execution.

There is so much that happens from the initial site visit to the event day. We guide our clients through the entire process. Along the way, we manage all the logistics for creating an incredible event while simultaneously designing a beautiful, authentic experience.
